To what extent are students using or learning procedures? What evidence did you see that students were making connections or were asked to make them? What kind of connections? What was the teacher’s goal for the class? Was it achieved? How did the questions in this transcript compare to those in the Hong Kong, Australia, and Tom/Lyle transcripts?

3. Leading questions about the video a) How is she asking questions? Is she asking pushing students to think or probing for understanding? b) To what extent are students using procedures? c) To what extent are students making connections? d) What might she have done to set up the stage in her class so kids just didn’t respond “That’s what the calculator said the graph was.”

4. Whole room discussion What do the posters from Day 5, the class transcript, the article “Never Say Anything a Kid Can Say,” Blake’s talk, and the video have in common? What sort of experiences would students need to be successful in activities such as these? Why is it important to carefully consider the questions and the type of questions you will ask? Is it important to balance the questions between pushing and probing? Why?
