3
John 14:17, The Spirit of Truth Indwelling of God the Holy Spirit Part 5
4
The identification of the Helper is noted in the phrase “the Spirit of truth”.
5
PNEUMA = “Spirit”, is the title for the third person of the Trinity, God the Holy Spirit.
6
ALETHEIA, “of truth”, is used to mean God’s Word - Bible Doctrine, and indicates the primary function of God the Holy Spirit in any Age.
7
“Spirit of Truth” is His functional title.
8
“Spirit of Truth” is His functional title. “Holy Spirit” is the title of His pers on.
9
“Spirit of Truth” is the function of God the Holy Spirit to make Bible doctrine real in your soul. The Holy Spirit is the prime mover in the GAP.
10
“Whom the world cannot receive.” HOS HO KOSMOS OUK DUNAMAI LAMBANO.
11
KOSMOS - “world or order”, speaking about unbelievers, as opposed to believers who are not of this world, compare John 8:23:18:36; Phil 3:20.
12
KOSMOS - “world or order”, speaking about unbelievers, as opposed to believers who are not of this world, compare John 8:23; 18:36; Phil 3:20. Only the believer can receive God the Holy Spirit.
13
“Cannot receive” - OUK DUNAMAI LAMBANO = “not ever able to receive.”
14
Due to the unbeliever’s rejection of Jesus Christ, they receive the results of their unbelief which means no salvation and no indwelling of the Holy Spirit.
15
There is no gift of the Holy Spirit before the Cross.
16
“Because it does not behold Him.” The unbeliever does not perceive in any way God the Holy Spirit. This is the reality of their spiritually dead state and inability to comprehend the Holy Spirit.
17
“Or know Him”, GINOSKO - “come to know, recognize, perceive, or ascertain.” That is, never being able to come to perceive or know God the Holy Spirit.
18
“But you know Him.” Referring to the believing disciples in the Upper Room. Believers in the Age of Israel have already had some knowledge of the 3rd person of the Trinity.
19
But they were still in the Age of Israel where the indwelling did not happen.
20
It is to every believer’s advantage to have the Holy Spirit working in your life.
21
“Because He continually abides beside you.” In the Age of Israel, God the Holy Spirit did not indwell believers He was “beside” them; He came alongside to help.
22
“And will be inside you.” This is a prophecy regarding the ministry of the Holy Spirit for the Church Age.
23
At the conclusion of the Jewish Dispensation (Age of Israel), and at the beginning of the Church Age (Age of Grace), the Holy Spirit would no longer just administer to the disciples along side them but would have a permanent and intimate relationship with them through His indwelling.
24
By means of faith in the Lord Jesus Christ the disciples would benefit from their action of faith by receiving the permanent indwell of God the Holy Spirit.
25
John 14:17, “That is the Spirit of Truth (Bible Doctrine) whom the world is never able to receive because they do not perceive or know Him, but you all know Him because He continually abides beside you, and He will be inside you.”
