7 Reproduction interdite © ALMA EUROPEAN CONSORTIUM Reproduction forbidden Design, Manufacture, Transport and Integration in Chile of ALMA Antennas Page 7 Thermal Analysis  The CAD and FEM delivered by EIE at end of Concept Phase have been used for generating an updated GMM and TMM  Thermal analyses, focused to thermal-distortion analysis, are being completed  Results of the foreseen eight thermal cases will be available for July the 23 rd  The updated CAD and FEM, if needed, will be used for updating the GMM and TMM and re-run the analyses for PPDR

8 Reproduction interdite © ALMA EUROPEAN CONSORTIUM Reproduction forbidden Design, Manufacture, Transport and Integration in Chile of ALMA Antennas Page 8 FEM Analysis  The ANSYS FEM delivered by EIE at end of Concept Phase have been used for generating a new NASTRAN FEM  “Structural” Consistency of the two models have been verified comparing Normal Modes and Gravity distortion  “Thermo-elastic” consistency is being verified as well, comparing Antenna thermal distortion under a constant  T=20°C. for this scope the NASTRAN output has been delivered to EIE  The 11 wind load cases relevant to error budget have been run and output is being processed

10 Reproduction interdite © ALMA EUROPEAN CONSORTIUM Reproduction forbidden Design, Manufacture, Transport and Integration in Chile of ALMA Antennas Page 10 Completion of the wind analysis based on the Antenna design proposed after PM3 Actual CFD model Antenna layout The analysis include: 11 cases in support to the Non-repeteable Error budget analysis budget 15 cases in support to the load analysis For all the analysed Antenna configuration the Pressure distribution on the Elevation Structure was provided to EIE on 06/07/2006 All the analysis was performed assuming a reference wind velocity equal to 9.5 m/s (Nighttime Primary condition)

26 Reproduction interdite © ALMA EUROPEAN CONSORTIUM Reproduction forbidden Design, Manufacture, Transport and Integration in Chile of ALMA Antennas Page 26 Wind Analysis – Conclusions  A complete set of analysis was performed on the basis of the Actual Antenna layout including also the Legs 11 antenna orientation in support to the Non-Repeteable Error Budget analysis 15 antenna orientation in support to the Load Analysis  All the analyses were performed assuming the Reference Wind Velocity equal to 9.5 m/s (Nighttime Primary conditions)  Pressure load under different wind conditions can be obtained by scaling the obtained value with a velocity quadratic law  A comparison with the old analysis results show as the introduction of the legs on the model only localy modify the parabola pressure distribution
