2 July 13, 2005R.P. Johnson2 Cable Status Needed in Italy to support Tower 8,9 Environmental Testing July 19.

3 July 13, 2005R.P. Johnson3 C7-142 Was initially rejected by Parlex QA for foreign material inclusion. –The coupons from the panel were good. Sent to GSFC for review. The material is nonconductive (from x- rays). Electrical tests at Parlex were good. The two traces near the material are TREQ signals from two different layers. –Trigger primitive (1 side of each of 2 differential pairs). –Failure of these traces would not impact the MCM functionality but would result in the loss of 2 out of 72 trigger primitives in the tower.

4 July 13, 2005R.P. Johnson4 C6-104 and C5-60 Rejected because of coupon annular rings less than 2 mils, but greater than 1 mil. IPC Class-3 high-reliability spec is >1 mil. NASA spec is >2 mil. For reference, the pad radius is 15 mils. These cables were sent to GSFC and reviewed by Diane Kolos et al this Monday. –Annular rings are visible at both cable extremities. –Some misregistration of the power/ground planes, but the electrical testing at Parlex at 100V indicates no problem. We have already asked Parlex to assemble these cables, plus C7-142, to have a good chance of them being available by end of week.

10 July 13, 2005R.P. Johnson10 C1-17 Cable with fully conforming coupons results and electrical testing. 3 connectors have small (microscopic) cracks in the dielectric, found by LAT QA. See following slides. Testing in progress at GSFC on connectors with known cracks. –5 mate/demate cycles, and –5 thermal cycles, followed by: –Leakage current measurement: no change –Visual inspection: in progress This cable has already been shipped to Italy. –It must be installed on Tower 9 in order to proceed with environmental test. –The remaining question will be whether it has to be removed and replaced later. The tracker group is completely comfortable with using this cable for flight.
