1 Classroom Assessment Compiled by Linda Blocker
2
2 Principles of Classroom Assessment Kevin Zook enumerated several important assessment principles that classroom teachers need to consider. Technology Teachers need to assess appropriate use of technology in the classroom.
3
3 Master Technology Teacher Standard II The Master Technology Teacher selects and administers appropriate technology-related assessments on an ongoing basis and uses the results to design and improve instruction.
4
4 Testing Testing is a tool to make learning outcomes observable so that we can assess them.
5
5 3 Principles of Assessment Collect relevant information to decide whether or not our instructional goals have been met. The more additional information we collect, the greater our decision-making confidence will be. Collect subjective data and objective data.
6
6 Classroom Testing Principles As long as there is a clear relationship between the observable performance and the learning outcome being assessed, the specific questions or tasks can take a variety of forms. Testing must be done with a purpose.
7
7 2 Types of Assessment Data When we collect numeric data, we are engaging in quantitative assessment. Qualitative data usually takes the form of personal, anecdotal interpretations of our experiences with the learner.
8
8 Evaluations There are four major types of instructional decisions that we call evaluations.
9
9 Preinstructional Evaluation Preinstructional Evaluation is the process of determining learners' readiness for instruction (prerequisite skills).
10
10 Formative Evaluation Formative evaluation is the process of determining how well learners are progressing toward achievement of an instructional goal.
11
11 Summative Evaluation Summative evaluation is the process of determining how well learners can perform the instructional goals that were the intended focus of our instruction.
12
12 Diagnostic Evaluation Diagnostic Evaluation is used to determine why students are having learning difficulties.
