1 Ms. Luhmann’s Newsletter: October 2015 Teacher update: I cannot believe it is almost the end of the 1st 9 weeks already! I could not have been more pleased with the beginning of this school year and have already seen such progress with each of the students. We are having a blast with all of our lessons and activities and I cannot wait to see the growth continue! 2 What’s happening in October? Science: *Solar System Model: due 10/6 -project explanation/rubric given separately 4.7 The student will investigate and understand the organization of the solar system. Math: Geometry! 4.12- The student will a) define polygon; b)identify polygons with 10 or fewer sides. Social Studies: Jamestown Field Trip: due 10/16 VS.3 The student will demonstrate an understanding of the first permanent English settlement in America by : f)describing the hardships faced by settlers at Jamestown and the changes that took place to ensure survival Language Arts: *Holes Book Report: due 10/22 -project explanation/rubric given separately 4.2- The student will make and listen to oral presentations and reports. *October 1st: Classroom door decoration day! -Halloween themed! *October 14th: Classroom Box Top Collection day *October 20th: Show and Tell

3 Tips of the Month 1.Go over the solar system information with your child to prepare for the project due. -study packet has been provided 2. Have your child read aloud the book Holes during their free time 3. Chat with your child about James Town before the field trip date coming up- anything you may know! 4. Review polygon information- test will not be until November! -Study packet is separate from newsletter Keep collecting box tops for education!

4 Shout Outs! Student of the Month! Johnny Davis Thank you to our janitor Mr. Johnson for being our guest reading to us every other Friday last month! We enjoyed having you in our class :) Dear Parents, I just wanted to take the time to thank you for all that you have done for our class this first nine weeks. I appreciate all of the great communication and help that has taken place so far and I hope it continues throughout the year. Keep up the great work!
