2. Important Musicians Psychedelic Rock was influenced by Jazz music, drugs, specifically hallucinogens. The use of drugs is what changed the music world and created psychedelic rock. Phychedelic  Psychedelic rock was very similar to Jazz music.  This type of music was the second biggest thing in American culture, the first being the civil-rights movement.  It was first heard in San Francisco, California in 1965 where artists would have “acid tests”, more known as LSD parties, and play their music.  The Warlocks, later known as The Grateful Dead, were the first to play at these parties.  They say it was the “Equivalent to abstract paint”.  More emphasis on the melody.

4. Psychedelic  Their philosphy of life  Peace, Love & Drugs  Hippies were gathering to celebrate instead of to protest.  The first rock festivals were in January 1967 at the Golden Gate Park. The first rock festival was called the “Human Be-In”.  The “Hippy” trend was spreading fast across the country.  Psychedelic Rock was at one point renamed “Acid Rock”. They wanted the lyrics to closely relate to the affects of being on LSD.  Two biggest differences were the race of the musicians, and the use of the electric guitar.

They represented a new lifestyle. They were a huge part of Psychedelic rock because the in cooperated pop, folk and jazz music into their work.

8. What Happened to Psychedelic Rock?  Psychedelic rock has slowly died out. Currently there aren't many artists that are apart of that genre, and there aren't many people who listen to it. TOP 3 CURRENT PSYCHEDELIC ROCK BANDS: 1. Flaming Lips, 2. Julian Cope, 3. The Cure  Psychedelic Rock faded out due to the fact that the major drugs the artists were using were made illegal in the late 1960s.  We believe as of today, Psychedelic rock has some form of an influence on today’s Heavy Metal music.
