“Kingdom of Heaven” the Focus of Jesus’ Teachings Mt 4:17 - “Repent for the kingdom…” Mt 4:23 - proclaimed the gospel of the kingdom throughout Galilee. Mt 5:3, 10, 19-20; 6:10, 33; 7:21. Mt 10:7 - sent the 12 to proclaim “the kingdom of heaven is at hand.” Parables - “the kingdom of heaven is like…”

Meaning of the Kingdom Kingdom = authority to rule, rule Daniel 7:14, 27 Those “in the kingdom” are those who are subject to the rule, those who serve. Luke 22:29

Is the church the same as the kingdom of heaven?

“the church” and “kingdom of heaven” are not synonyms. “kingdom” - rule “church” - an assembly of people Mt 21:43; Mt 23:13 Luke 12:31 - “seek His kingdom” A future sense, even after the church began: Acts 14:21; 1 Cor 6:9,10; 15:50

The “kingdom of heaven” is God’s sovereign rule among man. The “church” is the assembly of people who have submitted to that rule.
