Two types of location Absolute Location – its exact position on the globe Relative Location –a places relative location compared to another place 3 Types of Regions Formal Regions – are areas in which certain characteristics are found throughout the area. Example: Corn Belt in the United States Functional Regions – consist of a central place and the surrounding places affected by it Ex: Dallas – Forth Worth Metroplex Perceptual Regions – are defined by people’s feelings and attitudes about areas. Ex: The South, Great Plains

Weathering – is the breakdown of rock at or near the earth’s surface into smaller and smaller pieces Mechanical Weatherin g – occurs when rock is actually broken or weakened physically. Example. Water freezes to ice in a crack of the rock. Chemical Weathering – alters the chemical makeup of the rock EX : Acid Rain
