To increase its population (he was Canada’s first statistician- i.e., the first telemarketer!) To expand the colony’s resources. THE GUYS IN NEW FRANCE….

Bishop Francois de Laval Appointed by the King His Job: In charge of the Catholic Church and the missions to the Aboriginals. Laval was the first bishop to New France. He started a college in Quebec to train priests. (Laval University) He also started hospitals and schools. THE GUYS IN NEW FRANCE….
