4 Measures Is the space between the two bar lines In this space we place beats. Then we can divide and add note values to make rhythms We cannot subtract or multiply note values

6 The top number tells how many beats there are in a measure

7 Bottom number tells which note receives the entire beat with out it being divided or added.

8 Time Signature

9 Whole note – 4 beats long – numeric symbol 1 1, ( 2, 3, 4,)

10 Only one quarter note and a half note can be in a 1 (2) 3 (4)

11 Quarter Note – 1 beat – numeric symbol 4 1, 2, 3, 4

12 Eighth Note – ½ of a beat – numeric symbol 8 1 + 2 + 3 + 4 +

13 Time signature

14 Whole note - only exist in the tij time signature 1, ( 2, 3, 4,)

15 Only a half note and a quarter note can exist in a measure OR 1 (2) 3 1 2(3)

16 Three quarter notes can fit into a measure 1, 2, 3

17 Six eighth notes fit into a time signature 1 + 2 + 3 +

20 Two quarter notes fit in this time signature 1 2

21 Four eighth notes fit in this time signature 1 + 2 +
