Urban legends There was a theory about Apple’s logo being a tribute to the mathematician Alan Turing and his contributions to coding. Turing’s death was due to cyanide poisoning from an apple. The theory states that Steve Wozniak and Steve Jobs made the logo an apple with a bite out of it in reference. The first Apple logo depicts Newton sitting under an apple tree. The apple in the tree is highlighted, perhaps suggesting Apple’s early approach to simplicity.

Apple’s logo and digital technology Apple has secured a loyal fan base by using evangelist marketing (word of mouth) Each product released creates a buzz (O’Grady, 41) Apple as a status symbol Apple made each release an event/experience Apple has taken the logo and integrated it into their product design. The trademark is the sleek design of their products rather than a colorful logo.

Discussion questions Apple’s loyal following: Does Apple create the buzz through marketing? Or do the customers create the buzz? If you notice, the span of years between the change of there logo’s. What’s your opinion on why they kept the rainbow apple for 21+ years? The others logo’s lasted a year to less then ten. When you look at the cell phones or tablets. Does the apple stand out or do you notice it? If you had the chance to make the next logo for the company. What would it be?
