Activity - Tree inventory  GPS 10 tree locations  On data sheet write down:  Tree height (ft) – guessimate using a partner e.g. Partner stands next to tree, tree is 2 times person’s height, person is 5’5”, so tree is 11”  Type: evergreen or deciduous  Species (if known)  Mulching depth (in)  Distance to pavement (ft)  Notes

5. Prepping Data  Input hand written data into GPS_data_entry_form.xlsx  Save file as CSV (comma delimited) delimited)  Download GPS data (See DNR Garmin manual)  make sure to set ArcMap projection to WGS 1984  Save as ArcView Shapefile (Unprojected)

6. Making a Map  Add GPS shapefile &.csv to a new map document  Add imagery from …\Day3\data\GPS\  Export CSV as a.dbf (so it can be joined to shapefile)  Join.dbf with shapefile  Symbolize on attribute data
