2
Outline Significance Introduction to our project My Focus Specific Aims Design of Miniature ECG amplifier Memory Mechanism What is feasible?
3
Significance The leading cause of death in the United States is heart disease. 2003 Statistics: 23.0 million+ were diagnosed 700,000 died
4
Significance (cont’d) 15.6% of US people have no health insurance Insurance isn’t getting any cheaper Exploiting Preventative Medicine Is Hot
5
Introduction Develop a small device that can: Cleanly amplify the electric activity of the heart Save the amplified signal onto flash memory Produce a program that can: Analyze the ECG data and give heart-risk feedback to the user Be Sold Over-the-Counter Be User Friendly and Safe
6
Intro (cont’d) Purpose is: To assess heart risk of seemingly HEALTHY, middle to upper aged individuals To give a cheaper/ less demanding alternative for healthy patients Purpose is NOT: To replace a health professional in assessing heart risk of ILL or HEAVY RISK individuals
7
My Focus Develop miniature ECG amplifier Research methods to store time-continous data Interface ECG amplifier with storage device
8
Specific Aim I Development of Miniature ECG Amplifier Deciding on Chips Bread-Board Model PCB development Testing PCB model

13
Specific Aim II (cont’d) Implementing Flash Memory Control TDK’s® GBDriver© Provides control over CompactFlash™,Smart Media™ Controls up to 2GBytes of Flash Memory
14
What is Feasible? Construction of functional, miniature ECG Filtering Techniques to bring electrodes as close as possible Computer program to detect peak-peak times in signals Flash memory storage????
