Grading Criteria: 100 - 90% = A 89 - 80% = B 79 - 70% = C 69 = 60%= D Those students receiving fewer than 60% of the total points possible in this class will receive a grade of FAIL. A points system is used in this class. Students will be made aware of their standing in the class on a weekly basis by the posting of their Percentage earned and the grade this entails. **In order to qualify for ANY Extra-Credit work in this class, students must have completed and turned in at least 80% of the assigned classwork. There will be no makeup quizzes nor tests in this class. If you miss a quiz, your next quiz will count DOUBLE. Basic Classroom Rules: Students must come to class prepared to remain in class for the entire class period. Hall Passes issued in this class will be severely limited to emergency circumstances only. In order to receive a Hall Pass for any reason a student must have in their possession their Student I.D. card. All school and LAUSD rules will be strictly enforced in this class. The SPHS Honor Code will be strictly enforced in this class. Attendance is Mandatory! Success in Chemistry (as in most classes) depends upon a regular and consistent pattern of attendance! In order to promote this, the following guidelines have been instituted: a. Any students ABSENT from this class FOR ANY REASON will NOT be given make-up work until this absence is VERIFIED. No make up work will be given for any absence fewer than two days in length (with the exception of school-related [activity] absences). For those absences of three days or greater, ALL make up work must be requested through the Counseling Office and must be returned completed upon the student’s return from absence, or it will NOT be graded.. b. Students whom are absent from this class for more than two consecutive days, or for four days total during a grading period will have their parents contacted by Mr. Goodman. If the phone numbers listed in ISIS are invalid, the student’s absences will be referred to the PSA Counselors. *This letter is for the information of your parents and yourself, and must be signed and maintained within your Chemistry handbook at all times, so that your parents will understand how you are being graded in this class, and so that you can accurately point out any circumstances in which you believe that you have been treated unfairly in this class by Mr. Goodman. Attendance and Participation Policy: 1) Students earn points for classroom participation as measured on the classroom performance rubric show earlier in this presentation. Each student will earn points equivalent to their score (1-6) on this rubric times 10, for EACH day they are IN CLASS. A student that is ABSENT cannot earn participation points nor can they be made up.
