2 What are the most important decisions in your life? Which one will have the greatest impact on your eternal journey? D&C 131:1-5 – “in order to obtain the highest, a man must enter into… the new and everlasting covenant of marriage” Two marriages – Isaac & Rebekah – Jacob & Rachel (& Leah)

3 What is important to you in a spouse? MenWomen

4 What was important to Abraham, Isaac and Jacob? Genesis 24:1-7, Genesis 28:1-9 “not take a wife… of the daughters of the Canaanites” What’s so wrong with the Canaanites? – They were not of the Covenant. What does that mean for us today? – Marriage outside the temple isn’t eternal. Also, Gen 24:16 and Gen 29:16

6 Marriage Affects Generations Consider the effect of the decision of whom to marry. If a couple has five children who also marry, and subsequent generations repeat this pattern, how many people are affected by the original decision?

7 Marriage Affects Generations 10 people are affected in the first generation.

8 Marriage Affects Generations By the second generation, 60 people have been affected.

9 Marriage Affects Generations By the third generation, 310 people have been affected

10 Marriage Affects Generations By the fourth generation, 1,560 people have been affected.
