History Remind101 is the brain child of Michigan State University student Brett Kopf. Knowing that nearly all students use text messaging or email regularly, Brett Dreamed of a program that would allow his instructors the ability to send him a text reminding him of an upcoming assignment.

Features of Remind101 Remind101 gives teachers the ability to send email or text messages to their students or parents without having to know the student or parent’s phone number or email address. This feature helps protect the teacher, students and parents’ privacy. This is a free service available to anyone.

Getting Started To sign up for a free account do the following: 1.Go to www.remind101.comwww.remind101.com 2.Select: Start communicating with your classStart communicating with your class 3.Fill in all of the required information and select Sign up.

Creating a Class Log into your account and select ‘Add+’ under My classes. Give your class a name and a unique code (ex. @2ndBlockGeo)

Directions to Give to Students After creating a class, select the ‘How to join’ PDF icon. Print or display these directions for all students and parents to see.

Sending a message When you’re ready to send a message do the following: 1.Select the class you want to send the message to. 2.Type your 140 character or less message in the message box. 3.Select Send to send the message or select Schedule for later to schedule a future date and time to send the message.

Pros and Cons Pros Easy to use Safe Free Communicate with everyone in the class at the same time. Send reminders to all students about class work and assignments Cons Can not send messages to individuals, only to an entire class. Students can not send message to the teacher.
