2 All of the above images are double page spreads from the magazine We (Love) Pop, they have been created and designed for the attention of grabbing the target audiences attention and those who are lovers of the genre of pop. Throughout carrying out an investigation of all of these five double page spreads and then comparing them to each other, I am able to identify the shared features that each one of the magazines double page spreads possess and I can establish repeated patterns throughout. All of the five double page spreads all feature common and typical magazine double page spread conventions that you would expect to see throughout the magazine. The conventions are things such as the fact that the writing is consistently written in an article form as many of the double page spreads are interviews between the editors and the celebrity that is being interviewed. There are sometimes exceptions as the middle double page spread does not have long chunks of writing, they have short small snippets of information to quickly explain to the reader what is happening in the image. This is very effective because this will draw the target audience in as, if the magazine included too many double page spreads that are just full of writing then the reader may get bored and not want to buy the magazine again. Whereas have some double page spread with a lot of writing and some with a lot of visuals draws the reader in more to carry on buying the magazine. The main image always dominates the article and usually takes up a whole page in the article or is placed in the middle dominating most of both pages, this is too draw the reader in; this keeps a balance between the writing an visuals on the page. Typically the artist/band is smiling and gives of a happy and bubbly vibe attracting the audience in to read the article know that it is going to be a fun and happy article to read. smaller feature article photographs that relate to what is to be included in the content inside the magazine and finally a masthead in an appropriate colour and font to link in with the magazine cover keeping a repetitive colour scheme and layout. To add to this, we are able see other repeated patterns throughout the double page spreads inside the magazine. Each one of the double page spreads doesn’t not include the signature We (Love) Pop masthead, so therefore the audience is not able to have a constant reminder of what magazine they are reading. This could be a good thing because the constant reminded to the TA may get annoying, but it can also be a bad thing as they don’t have this reminder in their head, once they have finished reading the magazine, they may have thrown it away and forgotten what magazine they were reading. The font is the same almost every time and does not change throughout all the magazine double page spreads except for the one featuring, a range of male celebrities this could be, because this is more of a visual double page spread whereas the other four double page spreads have a lot more text. The text is constantly written in column form to makes it seem more formal and professional, it also makes the article seem like an article or an interview as they have the artists’ response in one colour and the question being asked in another. On the double page spread featuring all the different male celebs there are only snippets of information because if there were too many double page spreads that are too text heavy then the reader would get bored and not want to buy the magazine anymore. Also gives this more friendly tone to the magazine and makes it more visual so the reader is constantly interested in the magazine. The colours used are very consistent and typical, the bright, red, pink and baby blues which are colours commonly associated with the genre of pop because they are quite girly colours and the colours the target audience would expect to see in the magazine. Other colours such as blacks and whites are used to give these double page spreads that slight edge and quirkiness to the magazine to suit the target audiences personality and needs.
