8. Understanding The Earth is in orbit around the Sun. The Moon is in orbit around the Earth. Sometimes the Sun, Moon and Earth lie on a straight line. Light travels in straight lines so when the Moon, the Earth, and the Sun line-up, an eclipse happens.
