PURPOSE OF WEBSITE ■BYU Online is a new program at BYU. ■The BYU community have a very limited, if any, knowledge of the program. ■The goal of this website is to be a repository of information about the BYU Online program. Sample topics covered include: Program basics (included in tuition, semester based, register in AIM), listing of current BYU Online courses offered each semester, sample course syllabi, faculty and TA introductions with contact information, student testimonials, directions on how to access course, tips for success etc. ■Primary audience: students, faculty, college advisors ■This website is in response to a focus group held with former BYU Online students.

APPROACH ■This will be a website made using HTML, CSS, and JavaScript. Eventually, this website will be converted into a database-driven Drupal website.

FLOW ■Visitors access this website from: –AIM –Direct url (byuonline.byu.edu) –Link provided via welcome email

Home Page ■Purpose: This page introduces the website, highlights the most important information a student would need immediately. ■Flow: Top ribbon contains clickable buttons to navigate the website. Directly at eye-level are student testimonials and the program basics, followed by a search bar for online courses, a section about succeeding in university-level online courses, and a form to request future online classes. The bottom of the page contains important contact information. ■Function: Click on the top tabs to lead to their respective pages. Tab will be highlighted in a lighter shade of blue. Click on student testimonial to watch short clips from previous online students. Click on search bar under ‘Welcome’ and start to type BYU Online course. Predictive text will help lead you to your course. This will take you to your course information page. Click on green start learning button to go to student orientation modules. Click on white bar to request a future online class. Provide your name in the second white box. In the third white box provide your email address. Click submit button to send feedback.

Page Two ■Purpose: The purpose of this page is to provide the new online student orientation modules that are currently under construction. ■Flow: Students start with “Welcome to BYU Online” orientation video and move from left to right focusing on areas of deficiency. ■Function: Students click on the play button in the “Welcome to BYU Online” box to watch an orientation video. Students click on the “Is Online Learning a Good Fit For Me” box to take a self assessment and will be provided with feedback based on their overall score. Suggestions of additional videos to watch will be provided. Students will then click on the recommended videos to watch “Study Skills”, “Learning Styles” or “Computer Technology” based on the feedback from the self-assessment. Students click on the “How to Get Started in my Course – A Tour of a BYU Online Course” for explanations of various features within BrainHoney while showing the student how to navigate the important features, the importance of the syllabus etc. Click on “How to Get Help” will provide students with information on how to access their course TA, instructor, customer support, tech support. Click on ”Features of the LMS” will provide students with current information on common features in the LMS. Click on “Netiquette” will provide students with a tutorial on common courtesy online and “rules” of communication in cyberspace.
