Building Writing Fluency Instructions: A part, or chunk, of a sentence will appear on the screen, then disappear after a few seconds. Read it very carefully and quickly, then write it down in your notebook. When you hear the sound of a typewriter, the next part of the sentence is ready for you to read and write down. Skip a line between the sentence parts of each slide.

Fearless to speak her mind and refusing to mince words,
17
Malala is an independent voice
19
in a country riddled with violence
21
directed at promoting conformity.
23
However, the Taliban’s banning of girls’ education
25
in Pakistan in 2009
27
did not stop her from desiring to learn
29
or from openly speaking out against the prohibition.
31
And for that, she was shot.
33
In 2009,
35
at the height of the Taliban controversy in Pakistan,
37
Malala was chosen to lend a human voice
39
to a very inhumane struggle,
41
and she began privately blogging
43
for the BBC
45
with the hope that her small voice
47
would be powerful enough to reach the masses.
