Gaea

Gaea was a deities that ruled the earth before the Titans. Gaea made here children with Chaos. One of there sons names was Uranus. Uranus saw the power of the children they were making so he hid them inside of Gaea. She was angry and teamed up with Kronos. Kronos wanted a spot on the throne so Gaea teamed up with Zeus and overthrew Kronos. That was the end of the Titans.

Uranus

Uranus symbolized the sky. He was born by Gaea. Uranus and Gaea also had children together. There children were the Titans, three Hecatoncheires, and three Cyclopes. He hated his children because of the power they had. He then hid them in Tartarus which was inside Gaea. Gaea was angry that he did this so she made her son Kronos, a Titan, hit him with a sharp blade.

Kronos

Kronos was a Titan and the son of Gaea and Uranus. He took the throne from Uranus after castrating him. His wife was Rhea and there children were the Olympians. Kronos would eat his children because he believed they had to much power. When Rhea became angry at him, she made him swallow a rock instead of there son Zeus. Zeus then banished Kronos to the Underworld.

Hundred-Handed Giant

Also known as Hecatoncheires, they had one hundred handed and incredible strength. They also had fifty heads. They were children of Gaea and Uranus. They represented the earthquakes and the sea waves. Uranus sent them to Tartarus because he feared there power.

Cyclopes

The Cyclopes were one eyed giants that were the sons of Uranus and Gaea. They had one eye on there foreheads and were craftsmen. The most known Cyclopes is Polyphemus.

Rhea

Rhea was one of the daughters of Gaea and Uranus. She was a Titan and was the sister and wife of Kronos. They had six children together. They were Zeus, Poseidon, Hades, Demeter, Hestia, and Hera. Kronos was afraid that his children would try to overthrow him so he decided to swallow them. When Zeus was about to be born, Rhea tricked him into eating a rock which made him vomit up all of Zeus’ siblings. Zeus then banished Kronos to Tartarus which is in the Underworld.

Tartarus

Tartarus was a god at first. He was ranked third after Chaos and Gaea. But as a place, it was below Hades. Tartarus was a prison for the destructive monsters, criminals, and the opposing rivals after war.

Eros

Eros was the god of love. He was the son of Aphrodite who was the goddess of love. He was supposedly in the time of Gaea and Uranus and was the one that helped them fall in love. He was known for having a bow and arrow and making anyone fall in love with the first person they saw. When Aphrodite was mad because a princess named Psyche was more beautiful then her, she made Eros go down and make her fall in love with the ugliest creature on the planet. Eros fell in love with her and made her his wife. Her sisters tricked her into betraying him. Psyche went off looking for Eros but couldn’t find him. Se found Aphrodite and asked her where to find him. Aphrodite made her pass tests to see if she was worthy. She passed all of them and Aphrodite led her to Eros and they got married.

Chaos

Chaos was everything, according to Greek mythology. It was everything from the universe to the gods. The first deities that emerged from from Chaos was Gaea, Tartarus, and Eros.

Titans

Uranus and Gaea had birth to the 13 Titans. The Titans and the Olympians went to war and were later defeated and sent to Tartarus in the Underworld

Zeus

Zeus was the ruler of the Olympians. He became the ruler because he overthrew his father who was a Titan. He became the god of the sky and was giving a thunderbolt by the Cyclopes’ because he freed them so they could help him win the war against the Titans.

Hera

Hera was raised by her Titan parents, Oceanus and Tethys, and later got married to Zeus. She was the goddess of marriage and childbirth. She was forced to marry Zeus because he tricked her into marrying him. She always tried to mess with Zeus’ plans to try and get revenge.

Poseidon

Poseidon is the god of the sea. He was born from Kronos and Rhea. When they Olympians were fighting the Titans, the Cyclopes’ made him a trident that he could use to make large waves in the sea and he could also use it as a weapon against the Titans. Later in his rule, he married Aphrodite. He was beloved by seaman and made the first horse, which was made to impress Aphrodite.

Hades

Hades was the third brother out of the Big 3: Zeus, Poseidon, and then Hades. He was the god of the Underworld and was the ruler of dead. Hades weapon was a pitchfork. He used it to create earthquakes from the Underworld. When the Olympians were fighting the Titans, the Cyclopes’ made him a helmet that gave him invisibility.

Prometheus

Prometheus was the Titan who created all living things. He created creatures from a mixture of earth and water. From his imagination, he fashioned birds for the air, fish for the sea, and animals for the land. However, from the image of the immortal gods, he fashioned man. He was imprisoned on a mountain by Zeus because he had tricked Zeus into giving the good meat to the humans and the bad meat to the gods.

Epimetheus

Epimetheus was the brother of Prometheus. He wanted to help in the creation of the word so his brother let him. Because Prometheus loved his gentle brother, he decided to let him distribute the qualities that each of his creatures would need in order to survive. To creatures who were slow, he gave strength. To creatures who were weak, he gave great speed. Some creatures he armed with tusks, sharp claws, or stinging tails so that they could defend themselves. To other creatures, he gave either great or small size; the first to instill fright, the second to avoid detection.

Pandora was the woman created by Hephaestus. She was used to torture the human race because Prometheus tricked Zeus. She was given the beauty of a god but human voice and strength

Hephaestus

Hephaestus was a smith and also Zeus’ son. He was the creator of Pandora, the woman created to torture the human race. He gave the girl the face of a goddess but human voice and strength. Then gray- eyed Athena dressed her in silver clothing and placed an embroidered veil upon her head. Hephaestus crowned her with a golden wreath of intertwined wild animals, a marvel which he, alone, could devise.

Demeter means “Barley-mother.” Another name for her is Ceres, from which we get the word “cereal.” She was the goddess of the cornfield, mistress of planting and harvesting, lady of growing things. Zeus was very.

Persephone was the daughter of Demeter who made different types of flowers. She has to stay with Hades in the Underworld for 6 months every year because she had eaten food when she was down there.

Psyche

Psyche was the princess that made Aphrodite, the goddess of love, jealous because of her beauty. Eros fell in love with her and did not shoot his arrows until he could have her for himself. His mother Aphrodite granted this wish and Psyche was brought to live with Eros.

Eros was the son of Aphrodite. She wanted him to go down to the castle and shoot Psyche with an arrow so she would fall in love with someone or something ugly. When he went down he thought that she was very beautiful and in his attempt to shoot an arrow at her he was frightened when she opened her eyes and accidently stabbed himself. He then fell in love with Psyche.

Aphrodite was the goddess of love and the most beautiful goddess as well. When she saw a princess Psyche, which she thought was more beautiful then her on earth, she commanded her son Eros to go and shoot her with an arrow and make her fall in love with something ugly.

Zephyrus

Zephyrus was the west wind that would carry Psyche and her sisters to the castle. It carried them over meadows, hills, mountains, and gardens. They would eventually reach the castle of Eros.

Daedalus

Daedalus was a handy craftsman who was the top inventor before his nephew started to get better and better each day. He then took his nephew up to the top of the mountain on where Athena’s castle was and pushed him off thinking that he had killed him. Athena had actually turned Peredix into a partridge, which flew away. He made the Labyrinth which encased him and his son, Minos, Pasiphae, and the Minotaur.

Icarus

Icarus was the son of Daedalus who came up with the idea of making wings so they could get out of the Labyrinth and fly away. They could not go by sea because the king had told all the boatmen to not let them go anywhere. His father made the wings and they flew off. His father told him to not fly to high or to low. His son flew to high and his wings melted off so he fell into the sea and disappeared.

Minos

Minos was a very powerful king who was married to Pasiphae. Minos loved white bulls so he searched the world to find the best one. He found one but did not now it was sent by Aphrodite. Pasiphae fell in love with it. She then gave birth to a half-man, half-man, in which they called the Minotaur. Minos was ashamed of the child so he made Daedalus make the Labyrinth which he built around the castle and Daedalus was the only one who knew the way out.

Minotaur

The Minotaur was a the child of Pasiphae. She gave birth to this half- bull, half-man child. Minos was so ashamed of it that he had Daedalus make the Labyrinth which was like a prison to the Minotaur.

Narcissus

Narcissus was a boy that was stranded in the woods. He was the most beautiful boy and he hated it because every girl that he saw fainted because of his beauty. He then finds Echo but because of the curse Hera put on her, she could not say what she wanted to say to make him love her. Aphrodite being mad at the boy put a curse on him so he would fall in love with something he couldn’t have.

Echo was a nymph who was known for her beauty and voice. She helped Zeus not get caught when he was cheating which lead to Hera, his jealous wife, taking away her ability to speak her own words. She could only say the last words in the person she is talking to sentence. She falls in love with Narcissus but because she keeps saying the end of his sentences, he thinks she is just another crazy girl and doesn’t love her. Aphrodite being mad at the boy put a curse on him so he would fall in love with something he couldn’t have.

Orpheus

Orpheus was a boy that grew up with a lyre and his beautiful voice. He was attracted to a girl named Eurydice who was also attracted to him. They got married and went and lived in a house and barely came out. Everyone thought he was under a spell because he never played his lyre anymore. His wife got killed by snakes so he went down to Tartarus and made a deal with Hades to get his wife back. The deal was that he had to lead her out of Tartarus but he couldn’t look back and see her to see if it was actually her. He turned around right before they were about to exit and she disappeared.

Eurydice was the wife of Orpheus who was killed by snakes and was also almost brought back to life by Orpheus.

Aristeus was the young king of Athens who went to see if Eurydice was a witch who had put Orpheus under a spell. When he saw her he chased after her and made her run over a nest of snakes who killed her.

Midas

Midas was a greedy king that loved everything gold. He was talking to the sky and was telling Apollo that gods did not deserve gold and that only kings should have it. Apollo did not want to get angry like the other gods would so he granted Midas a wish. Midas wished for a golden touch. He went on turning things into gold and he accidently turned his daughter to gold. He didn’t really care when he did that because he was so excited with his golden touch. He then realized that he couldn’t eat or drink so he was angry. Apollo made him repent and he took the gift away but gave Midas donkey ears. He made his servant that cut his hair not tell anyone about his donkey ears. People found out but Midas forgave the servant like Apollo forgave him.

Apollo was the god who gave Midas the golden touch. He also took it away and gave him and took away his donkey ears.

Theseus

Theseus was a poor boy that was smaller then most kids and his mom told him he was the son of Zeus. His mortal fathers name was Aegeus. He trained and became stronger. He wanted to stop the sacrificing of the men and women to the Minotaur so he went to Crete to fight it. He fights it and kills it and saves all the men and women that came with him. He became king after and over through Crete.

Aegeus

Aegeus was the mortal father of Theseus and barely the king of Athens. He let Theseus go to Crete and try and kill the Minotaur. He said when he comes back on the boat to put a white flag on the sail to signal that he is alive. Theseus defeated the Minotaur but forgot to put the flag up on the way back so Aegeus jumped off a cliff into the water and drowned.

Ariadne was one of the daughters of King Minos that helped Theseus get to the Minotaur so he could kill it. She said she would only help him if she could come with him back to Athens and he accepted.

Corynetes was a huge man who carried an enormous brass club. He was about to smash Theseus’ head when Theseus tricked him. Theseus made him give him the club and then he smashed Corynetes’ head off.

Pitocamptes

Pityocamptes was strong enough to press pine trees to the ground. He would fling his victims up in the air until they hit the ground and died and then he would steal there stuff. He tried to fling Theseus up in the air but Theseus held the tree down until Pitocamptes was standing over him and he let go. Pityocamptes was knocked unconscious. Theseus tied him to two pine trees and then let go and ripped him apart.

Procrustes was the inn keeper that would either stretch out or cut off a persons legs if they did not fit the bed. Theseus flipped Procrustes onto the bed and chained him on. He cut off his legs then his head because he did not want him to suffer.

Sciron was another large man who had a great battle ax as a weapon. He would tell travelers to wash his feet and then kick them over the cliff for a huge turtle to eat. Theseus pulled, dodging the kick and pulled Sciron over the cliff.

Perseus was the guy who cut off the head of Medusa. He used the head of Medusa to kill king Polydectes.

Danae was the mother of Perseus who gave birth to him in the tower that her father, Acrisius, trapped her in to keep the prophecy of him getting killed by her son from happening. In the end, Perseus accidentally kills him because he looked at the face of Medusa.

Acrisius was the king of Argos. He locked his daughter Danae in a tower because there was a prophecy that his daughter would bear a son that would kill him. He locked her in a tower which glowed one night. When he got into the tower, she was carrying a baby that she named Perseus.

Medusa was one of the three Gorgons that got her claws, snakes, and power to turn people to stone because she was caught by Athena when Medusa with Poseidon.

The gray sisters were three old women that had one eye and one tooth which they all shared. Perseus took these things from them to get the secret of where the nymphs were out of them.

Andromeda was the girl that was about to be sacrificed to a see monster and then Perseus cut off its head and took her as his wife

Athena was the goddess who put the spell on Medusa that gave her the features of a snake and the claws and wings of a bird.

Hermes was the messenger of Zeus that gave Perseus the winged shoes so he could go on his quest. He told him to find the Gray sisters that would tell him where the Nymphs of the West who would give him equipment that would help him kill Medusa.
