Robert Burns was a Scottish poet who is famous all over the world.

His work has been translated into hundreds of languages and is celebrated by people all over the world.

Robert Burns was born in a small cottage in Alloway on 25 January 1759.

Life was very hard for Robert and his brother Gilbert. They were very poor and had to help their father work the land from an early age.

His father William believed education was very important and paid for Robert and Gilbert to go to school. He also paid for them to have a private teacher at home.

Robert was very clever and worked hard at school His teacher’s name was John Murdoch. Mr Murdoch was impressed with Robert.

On Monday it was Burns Day and t oday we are going to be celebrating the life of Robert Burns at our Whole School Scots Assembly. We are going to sing Scottish songs, recite some of his poetry as well as embracing our Scottish culture and heritage.
