3.  The pink would represent the part: 7 equal pieces  Every piece would represent the whole: 8 equal pieces  The fraction would be 7/8

4.  Take our class for example. There is a total of 17 students (the whole) in the class. In the class there are 5 girls (the part) and there are 12 boys (a different part).  If I wrote a fraction for the class to represent the girl population it would be 5/17---- Five girls out of 17 students.  If I wrote a fraction for the class to represent the boy population it would be 12/17---- Twelve boys out of 17 students.

5.  Lets say you have the following:  What is the fraction of blue M&Ms?  One out of the 6 M&Ms are blue: 1/6  Let’s look at the next one (tricky):  Six out of the 8 M&Ms are red: 6/8 What is The Fraction Of Red M&Ms

6.  Example: 5/8  First you would draw a pie  Then you would divide it into the eight equal pieces that would represent the whole.  Then you would shade in the five pieces to represent the part.
