Most of the history of knots has been erased. Cat gut was used to make knots a long time ago. Some archeologists found some necklaces that date back far in time, with a knot tied at the end. Over time they made knots made out of rope.

We use most of the knots they made now-a- days. It’s a part of a vast branch of math. Scientists study knots to help understand how to unravel a loop in DNA.

Definition: an interlacing, twining, looping, etc., of a cord, rope, or the like, drawn tight into a knob or lump.
