1 Arizona State University --McCain Institute for International leadership Washington, DC Fall Internship Program

2 Semester in Washington, DC internship program Students work part time in all kinds of internships (4 days per week) Students enroll in one of two seminars taught by McCain Institute staff (1 day per week) ASU—McCain Internship Program

3 All students stay at WISH housing in the Woodley Park area of DC Students earn 12 credit hours of POS 484, Internship credit or credit through their major departments

4 Requirements Open to students from any major on any ASU campus Minimum GPA: 3.0 Minimum 60 hours of coursework completed at ASU by Fall 2013

5 Coursework Designing Solutions to Complex International Relations Challenges U.S. Diplomacy in Action – The Embassy Country Team

6 Designing Solutions to Complex International Relations Challenges Under the guidance of the Executive Director of ASU’s McCain Institute for International Leadership, students will engage in a highly creative and intense exercise of setting the factual baseline for effective international decision-making. Students and faculty will prepare the new Washington-based Decision Theater for foreign policy applications. Through research, design, and class discussion, participants will create a highly reliable global data set relevant to international policy-making and Decision Theater visualization.

7 U.S. Diplomacy in Action – The Embassy Country Team Led by the Senior Director of ASU’s McCain Institute for International Leadership, a former U.S. Ambassador, students will constitute a U.S. Embassy Country Team to a specific nation and manage a reality-based diplomatic agenda. Students will be assigned the actual roles of Embassy team members, and together with their “Ambassador,” practice how U.S. foreign policy is developed and executed in the field.
