3 3  Rigor is defined in the content standards  Reading: Understanding and making conclusions on more complex text than previously  Mathematics: Skills previously taught at one grade level are now taught at a lower grade level  The academic achievement expectations (defined by the cut scores) are directly related to the content standards, not the number of items on the tests Impact of Rigor

4 4  Percent of proficient students declined for 2012-13  Proficiency data more aligned with  NAEP  The ACT college readiness benchmarks  Other states who have adopted college- and –career readiness standards

5 Reviewing 2012-13 Data 5  Proficiency: Percent of students who meet a specified bar for demonstrating preparedness for the next grade level and college- and –career readiness  Growth: Percent of schools that make progress similar to the progress at an average school in the State; if more than the average school, this is reported as exceeded
