3. Identifying children with SEN and assessing their needs is of high importance at Pomphlett Primary school. We monitor the progress of all pupils and ensure that they all have access to good quality teaching which takes account of their differing needs and learning styles. We use a range of assessments and appropriate checklists of information to identify needs, provision is then more personalised and meaningful for each pupil. All teachers are able to recognise pupils progress or lack of and review their needs. As a school we are adaptable in modifying teaching approaches and resources as part of a differentiated curriculum, providing effective classroom strategies removing any barriers to learning. At Pomphlett Primary School a supportive SEN team has been developed and as a team we endeavour to ensure that the necessary provision is made for any pupil who has special educational needs.  Special Educational Needs Co-ordinator – Miss Louise Galloway As a SENCO I am responsible for the SEN policy and co-ordination of specific provision and support for individual pupils. 8. High priority is placed on teachers and staff continuing their professional development, all staff are equipped to deal with a diverse range of needs. Staff training, development and support are planned accordingly to ensure all staff both teachers and non teachers have knowledge on the four areas of need and the difficulties within each area. The SENCO has achieved the National Award for Special Educational Needs and has sufficient designated time to fulfil the role adequately and provide and attend training where appropriate. Within the Key Stage 1 Team staff have been trained in using the BLAST programme, Colourful Semantics, Early Literacy Support, ELKLAN and Precision Teaching. In Key Stage 2 staff training has included Precision Teaching, Additional Literacy Support, ELSA, Letters and Sounds programme, Rapid Reading and Springboard. Staff Training and Expertise

10. Across Plymouth all schools believe that, ‘Working together produces POSITIVE outcomes’. With the SEN Code of Practice (2014) firmly in place we endeavour to work with Education, Health and Social Care to provide a coordinated approach for all children with SEN. 12. Views of Parents/Carers We believe in a family centred approach, therefore you will always be involved in discussions and decisions about all aspects of SEN relating to your child. Remember you can always contact the SEN Co-ordinator to share your views and opinions. Views of Children We always start with the individual and take into account their wishes and aspirations, the outcomes they seek and the support they need to achieve their potential.
