2 What’s a Political Party? Political Party- Group of people who attempt to control government through the winning of elections Election orientated- care more about winning elections than standing for issues

3 Functions of Political Parties Nominating- Choose candidates to run for office Informing Supporters- Spread information and news about their own party Governing- Ask the government for new laws and programs Bonding Agent- Keep an eye on how elected officials from their own party do their job, If they do a bad job they might not get re-elected Watchdog- Keep an eye on the other party and point out their weaknesses and poor ideas
