What is Community Campus?

WHAT IS COMMUNITY CAMPUS?

ENGINEERING ACADEMY The mission of the Engineering Academy is to improve science, technology, engineering, and math career preparedness in our region. Students learn about the engineering career pathway to prepare them for college. High School Students from Apollo, Daviess County, Owensboro, Owensboro Catholic and Mclean County participate in real-world, hands- on activities.

WHY AN ENGINEERING ACADEMY? http://www.payscale.com/college-salary-report/majors-that-pay-you-back/bachelors

Project Lead the Way The nations leading provider of rigorous and innovative STEM education Focus Critical thinking Creativity Innovation Real-world problem solving Curriculum Problem-based Engaging Exposure to unique areas of study Provides students with a foundation and proven path to college and career success in STEM related fields.

Engineering Academy Course Flowchart The Engineering Academy's suggested path is the first on the left, but other opportunities are available. The Engineering Academy is also currently looking into reviving the Computer Integrated Manufacturing course which would come after Principles of Engineering in place of Digital Electronics at OCTC.

INTRO TO ENGINEERING DESIGN Intro to Design Design Solutions Reverse Engineering

Introduction to Engineering Design Students have an opportunity to gain 4 hours of college credit in this course through dual enrollment with OCTC At Apollo High School this course counts as both your Technology and Performing Arts required courses At Daviess County High School this and Aerospace Engineering counts as your Technology Requirement.

AEROSPACE ENGINEERING Flight and Navigation Aerospace Materials and Structures Propulsion Space / Orbital Mechanics

PRINCIPLES OF ENGINEERING Simple Machines Electricity Thermodynamics Materials and Structures Mechanical Engineering

PRINCIPLES OF ENGINEERING Students have an opportunity to gain 4 hours of college credit in this course through dual enrollment with OCTC At Apollo High School this course counts as a full math elective credit if the student has already completed Algebra 2

INTRO TO PROGRAMING &AP COMPUTER SCIENCE Basic Programming with Visual Basic Object Oriented Programming: Java

INTRO TO PROGRAMING and AP COMPUTER SCIENCE Students have an opportunity to gain a total of 6 hours of college credit in these courses through dual enrollment with OCTC At Apollo High School AP Computer Science counts as a full math elective credit

2 Part Registration: http://apollopltw.weebly.com/pltw- engineering-academy-application-2016.htmlhttp://apollopltw.weebly.com/pltw- engineering-academy-application-2016.html Take ACT Registering for high school class schedule in March Start in August with Introduction to Engineering Design AM Class 7:50 – 9:00 (bus on back-end) PM Class 2:00 – 3:15 (bus on front-end) The rest of the day is at your home high school PROCESS?

ARE YOU ELIGIBLE? The classes are college-level and with lots group and independent work that requires a mature student. A math score on the EXPLORE of 17 or better is an indication We ask that our recruits achieve an ACT composite score of at least 17 ACT tests
