CERN, BE-ABP (Accelerators and Beam Physics group) Garcia, Pfingstner, Renier ATF operations training Training activities Received lectures: Damping ring tuning, Kijoshi Kubo, 1h FFS design and tuning, Glen White, 3h Mover systems, Janice Nelson, ½ h Cavity BPM system, ½ h, Steward Boogert Tuning knobs, S. Kuroda, 1h IP beam size measurement with Wire scanner and Shintake monitor, 1h, T. Okugi Participation in 2x8h shifts Rest of the time: autodidactic learning (Flight Simulator)

CERN, BE-ABP (Accelerators and Beam Physics group) Garcia, Pfingstner, Renier ATF operations training Flight Simulator Software to control the ATF hardware and low-level control software Parallel to VSYSTEM Matlab-based Flight Simulator can run on Real machine Lucretia model of the accelerator
6
CERN, BE-ABP (Accelerators and Beam Physics group) Garcia, Pfingstner, Renier ATF operations training Flight Simulator Advantages: Code can be tested on the model off-line before it is used on the real accelerator. Reduces necessary beam time and prevents on-line bugs. Students can train themselves without using the real machine Two interfaces available: Control panel Matlab terminal

CERN, BE-ABP (Accelerators and Beam Physics group) Garcia, Pfingstner, Renier ATF operations training Ground motion experiment Collecting of information from mainly Glen White and Yves Time stamp synchronisation of BPM and NI system via Network Time Protocol (NTP) Beam arrival system available at many location in TTL an NIM standard. Signals are clear (low noise) and triggering should be no problem Cabling will be difficult to do by ourselves. Probably has to be done by Japanese technicians.
