2 PCLL Scorekeeper Presentation  Home Team is responsible for keeping score  To keep a record of the game … as called by the Umpire  You are the Accountant not the IRS  Always have sharp pencils and eraser for the job - makes it far easier. Carrying a box in the car might not be a bad idea.  If you have questions, ask (another scorekeeper, manager). Scorekeeper’s Job

4 PCLL Scorekeeper Presentation  Arrive 15 minutes ahead of game time  If home team, get score book from concession stand  Verify scoreboard works  If visitor use team book  Get line-up from each manager  Enter visitor and home line-ups on opposing pages  Visitors on left and home team on right  Include player name and jersey number Pre-Game Preparation

5 PCLL Scorekeeper Presentation  Enter date and starting time  Fill in starting pitchers at top  Keep track of innings pitched under “IP”  Partial innings count as an inning  Players arriving after the start of the game are added at the bottom of the line-up  If official book is not in shed use a sheet from team book and tear out at the end More Pre-Game Prep

7 PCLL Scorekeeper Presentation  You need to mark all Balls and Strikes pitched per batter.  Ask the umpire to clarify the call if necessary, but only when play has been stopped. He may ask you for the same!  Don’t get behind in the count.  Take your breaks when there is a break in the play. Scoring the Count

9 PCLL Scorekeeper Presentation  Fielder’s choice is not a hit.  How to score and error, which is not a hit.  “Ordinary Effort” vs. “Routine Effort”  Remember that Little Leaguers are not professionals. The benefit of the doubt should always go to the batter.  Getting on base via an error or fielders choice is not a hit. Scoring a Batter on Base

10 PCLL Scorekeeper Presentation  After marking the appropriate method of getting on base marked clearly - then complete the triangle for the based completed bases run.  You should also mark errors and total errors per inning which is a key metric in baseball. Scoring a Runner and Runs

11 PCLL Scorekeeper Presentation  Ways a batter makes an out: Strikeout (looking) K Strikeout (swinging) KSKS Fly out (right field) F9 Force or Tag (3rd to 1st) 5-3 Unassisted Put Out U3 Foul out (3rd baseman) FO5 An Unassisted Put Out is when a fielder can make an out on a ground ball without throwing it to another defensive player (Example: A ground ball is hit to the 1 st baseman, he field’s it and steps on 1st base before the runner arrives = U3) Scoring a Batter Out

13 PCLL Scorekeeper Presentation  You must mark the following:  Pitchers Name  Innings pitched  Throwing one (1) pitch in an inning counts as one (1) inning pitched.  It is best to tally at the end of every inning. Fielding Records: Pitching

15 PCLL Scorekeeper Presentation  Tally final score, including pitchers.  Get Umpire’s signature (if official book)  Return official book to Concession Stand If you get home and find you have the official book bring it back right away.  Thanks for doing a great job!
