Food Chains Fourth Grade WebQuest By: Samantha Basile

Introduction Get ready, fourth graders! Your class has recently been selected to work in a research lab with some of the country’s leading ecologists. They have been studying food chains and need you to gather important information for them! Help them find out how food chains function and affect our ecosystem!

Task In order to help the ecologist, you will be working in groups and researching different parts of a food chain. Your group will need to create a drawing of a food chain and hand in a paragraph explaining the illustration and what would happen if one of the levels in the food chain was eliminated.

Process 1. Each group will consist of three students. -Student 1:Consumer -Student 2: Producer -Student 3: Decomposer 2. Each student will research their part of the food chain. They will… -Find examples of the assigned part and investigate their role in the food chain. -Discover where they are in the food chain and why they are important? -Record all information in science notebooks.

Process (cont.) 3. Come together as a group and exchange information. Be sure to take notes on what your classmates have found 4. With all this information, your group will create a detailed illustration of a food chain. It must be labeled and include arrows to indicate the direction of the chain. 5. After, your group will write a paragraph explain the different parts in your food chain, and what would happen if one was eliminated.
