South Australian Libraries Child and Youth Services (SALCYS) STRATEGIC PLAN 2012 -2014 Mission: To share ideas and resources that improve service delivery and raise the profile of children’s and youth services in the SA Public Library Network. Vision: Sharing knowledge and gaining expertise to provide the best service and outcomes for children and youth in our libraries and communities. ShareEducate Achieve Inspire Ensure SALCYS members given opportunities to strengthen knowledge and confidence Create opportunities for State-wide SALCYS events and services And as a result raise the profile of SALCY with in the SA Public Library Network Maintain a culture that encourages new ideas, invoking action and allowing change. SALCYS members given the opportunity to share within meetings. information shared at meetings is widely distributed within the SA Public Library network

Communication Create a blog for SALCYS to share ideas, resource concepts, success stories etc Create hub groups to allow for better sharing of resources and communication with the wider network. This sharing helps to tailor programs and services to our respective wider communities – North, South, West, East. Investigate video conferencing or Skype as part of our meeting to allow for regional participation (Ceduna) Investigate/ buddy / mentoring with neighbouring libraries PLSA exec rep (Lynn) to report to PLSA exec on a quarterly basis. This aim of this reporting process is to raise the profile of SALCYS and to better opportunities for tenders and grants

Playford and Salisbury to provide a training and awareness session for SALCYS around LAPSIT (Books R 4 Babies 2) outreach programs/kits with a view to sharing the resource with the network (middle of the year meeting) NAIDOC – Cultural Awareness / Literacy awareness (Deb Hall to investigate a guest speaker) Develop a skills matrix to ascertain the collective knowledge of the group and identify areas for professional development pertaining to staff working in Children Services Premiers Reading Challenge guest speaker to update SALCYS network on new and current initiatives DECD early childhood guest speaker – 11 key messages and the parenting toolkit Doing and learning together

Comic Con March Youth Week 2013 initiatives – discuss ideas. Additionally aim for two SALCYS youth events per year. Promote through regional HUB groups. July school holidays 2013 – simultaneous graphic novel activity – online book NAIDOC (potential idea) September Dad’s Read – Veronica PLS December Give the gift of Reading – Playford Library, potential to have the wider network take part. Explore Playford’s concept with the view to a network run initiative across participating libraries December - January Summer Reading Program – discuss how we can work together more effectively and utilise the national and PLS resources more effectively (access to more prizes locally) Achieve

Implement new ideas/networking for better partnerships Ensure there is adequate time at each meeting for sharing of new ideas. Have a time keeper at each meeting so that each person has an opportunity to speak. Bus tour in 2014 allowing network members to visit alternate sites and explore concepts, programs, resources etc. Agenda items will need to reflect the planning process in the lead up to 2014 implementation
