Galatians Salvation by works or by faith? Holiness by works or by Faith?
2
We talked last time about why the doxology at the beginning in verse 5. Any suggestions? Gal 6:12-14 As many as desire to make a good showing in the flesh, these would compel you to be circumcised, only that they may not suffer persecution for the cross of Christ.
3
13 For not even those who are circumcised keep the law, but they desire to have you circumcised that they may boast in your flesh. 14 But God forbid that I should boast except in the cross of our Lord Jesus Christ, by whom the world has been crucified to me, and I to the world.
4
15 For in Christ Jesus neither circumcision nor uncircumcision avails anything, but a new creation. 1 Cor 1:29-31 that no flesh should glory in His presence. 30) But of Him you are in Christ Jesus, who became for us wisdom from God–and righteousness and sanctification and redemption– 31) that, as it is written, “He who glories, let him glory in the LORD.”
5
Gal 2: 20 “I have been crucified with Christ; it is no longer I who live, but Christ lives in me; and the life which I now live in the flesh I live by faith in the Son of God, who loved me and gave Himself for me.
7
Let’s discuss some key phrases “That He might deliver us” vs 4 The verb “deliver” here means to select out from impending trouble. Not only that but it also expresses Christ’s intense interest in His deliverance of us!
8
He is intensely interested in the results of the fact of our deliverance. This would be the same thing as a good father is very much involved and lovingly interested in the development of his child.
9
Galatians 4:4 But when the fullness of the time had come, God sent forth His Son, born of a woman, born under the law, 5) to redeem those who were under the law, that we might receive the adoption as sons. 6) And because you are sons, God has sent forth the Spirit of His Son into your hearts, crying out, “Abba, Father!” 7) Therefore you are no longer a slave but a son, and if a son, then an heir of God through Christ.
10
”From this present evil age” He has delivered us, He is delivering us and He will deliver us. He has delivered us=by Christ’s shed Blood! He is delivering us=by the Christian life via (filling of the Spirit, gifts, prayer, the Word of God and the body of Christ!)
11
He will deliver us completely= with the rapture! 1 Thessalonians 4:13) But I do not want you to be ignorant, brethren, concerning those who have fallen asleep, lest you sorrow as others who have no hope. 14) For if we believe that Jesus died and rose again, even so God will bring with Him those who sleep in Jesus.
12
15) For this we say to you by the word of the Lord, that we who are alive and remain until the coming of the Lord will by no means precede those who are asleep. 16) For the Lord Himself will descend from heaven with a shout, with the voice of an archangel, and with the trumpet of God. And the dead in Christ will rise first.
13
17) Then we who are alive and remain shall be caught up together with them in the clouds to meet the Lord in the air. And thus we shall always be with the Lord. 18) Therefore comfort one another with these words.
