23. A paragraph rarely has only one sentence. Usually it has three to eight sentences of varying lengths, all focused on one main idea.

24. Topic Sentence What is the topic sentence? The topic sentence is the first sentence in a paragraph. What does it do? It introduces the main idea of the paragraph. How do I write one? Summarize the main idea of your paragraph. Indicate to the reader what your paragraph will be about.

25. Supporting Details What are supporting sentences? They come after the topic sentence, making up the body of a paragraph. What do they do? They give details to develop and support the main idea of the paragraph. How do I write them? You should give supporting facts, details, and examples.

28. Paragraph unity means that a paragraph should be united as a whole. It means that the sentences inside the paragraph should directly support the topic sentence.

29. Coherence means that every sentences in the paragraph sticks together and linking together in a continues line of thought,that is establishing unity of idea.

30. The emphasis in a paragraph must relate to both the topic sentence in that section of writing, as well as the overall thesis statement if part of a larger essay or paper.
