Innovation- the introduction of something new. Industrialization- the overall change on circumstances accompanying a society’s movement of population and resources from farm production to manufacturing production and associated services. Transportation- means of conveyance or travel from one place to another. Urbanization- the process by which towns and cities are formed and become larger as more people begin living Reform- to change, to improve Free enterprise- the freedom of private businesses to operate competitively for profit with minimal government regulation

Sectionalism- loyalty to a region Telegraph- a device or system that uses electric signals to transmit messages by a code over wires Morse Code- a system for transmitting messages that uses a series of dots and dashes to represent the letters of the alphabet, numbers, and punctuation Strike- a stopping of work by workers to force an employer to meet demands Discrimination- unfair treatment of a group; unequal treatment because of a persons race, religion, ethnic background, or place of birth.

Cotton gin- a machine that removes seeds from cotton fiber Tenant farmer- farmer who works land owned by another and pays rent either in cash or crops Factory system- system bringing manufacturing steps together in one place to increase efficiency.
