Why My Country Is Developing  Illegal drugs such as cocaine and heroine are bad influences on Colombia.  In the 1980’s, the US helped Colombia bring in illegal drugs into the states.  Drug Cartel’s influence the government greatly, corrupting it.  Colombia produces 535 million tons of cocaine a year.

3. Location CCCColombia is in South America and is just east of Panama.

5. Climate  Colombia is hot throughout the year.  Rainfall peaks in the middle of July.

7. Economy GDP Per Capita (2008): $9,200 Unemployment Rate: 11.3% Population below poverty line: 49.2% Oil Production and Consumption: 600,600 bbl/day (production) 291,000 bbl/day (consumption)

8. Economy: Industries Major Industries: food processing, oil, clothing and footwear, and emeralds. Mineral Industries: Colombia provides the world with Emeralds. Agricultural: Cassava, Sugar Cane, Cattle, and Cocoa

10. Colonization of Colombia  Spain came to South America in 1531 and controlled all of it except Brazil for over 300 years  There was a war between the natives of South America and Spain.  They won there independence in 1822.
