Day 53 Foundations– Poetry soapstone, and Participle phrases, and

Objectives 1. Identify Participles and Analyze sentences for their effect. 2. Recognize characteristics of a variety of forms of poetry Homework: Close reading Poetry passage due Friday Vocabulary 3B lesson due Tuesday

Instructions: Do not write the sentences. Write down the participial phrases and draw an arrow to word they modify. 1. The man running slowly still finished the race. 2. The boy having been scolded finally did his work. 3. The teacher, having retired, could now travel widely.

Vocabulary: 3B Foundations Take out your vocabulary book to check your work on synonyms and Antonyms.

The Participial Phrase A participal phrase consists of a participal and any modifiers or complements the participle has. The entire phrase is used as an adjective.

Examples: Then, disgusted with the other duck, it pecked the mirror. – The participal phrase modifies the pronoun it. The adverb phrase with the other duck modifies the past participle disgusted.

Poetry Packet Take a poetry packet and write your name at the top. You will be using this for the duration of our poetry unit. Make sure you write your answers on the standards sheet as well as the packet. Each week you will need to follow the guidelines.
