When three stars appear in the sky on Saturday evening, it is time for Jewish families to say goodbye to Shabbat.
3
A special plaited candle is lit. This candle represents the togetherness that the family have enjoyed during Shabbat.
4
Prayers are said over a cup of wine.
5
A box of sweet smelling spices is passed around and everyone takes a sniff. Smelling the spices helps Jewish families remember the sweetness of Shabbat during the working week.
6
Over the special plaited candle, the final prayer of Shabbat is said. ‘Blessed are you, Lord G-d of the Universe, you set apart Shabbat from the other six days of the week.’
7
Shabbat finally ends when the candle is put out in a dish of wine.
8
Jewish families hope that the joy of Shabbat will spill over into the rest of their week.
9
Shabbat is finished. (Have a good week!)
