Brain Research, Neuroplasticity, and the Value of Questions For the last several days, we have explored the idea of growth mindset vs. fixed mindset. We have examined the benefit of having a growth mindset and have explored how making mistakes leads to growth and learning. How do we know this is true? What is the evidence that supports these ideas?

Learning Goal: Students will explain how brain research supports the development of a growth mindset. Students will explain why asking questions helps to develop a growth mindset and strengthens learning.

Reflection Take a couple of minutes to think about what you learned from the first two videos about brain research. What is neuroplasticity? How is information processed by the brain? Why would someone want to "Rewire" their brain? What did you find interesting about the videos? How did the research support a growth mindset? Summarize what you learned from the videos. Some thoughts about Questions Research shows us that question asking is linked to high achievement. Students have two responsibilities in the classroom, 1) always ask a question if you have one, and 2) always answer a question from a classmate if asked. Ask questions such as: Why does that make sense? How does that work? How does that connect to something else? When ready to quit in problem solving, Ask: What am I missing? What else do I need the consider? What strategy can I use to solve this? What tool could I use to help me with this? How can I think about this differently so that I can solve it?
