What Americans Do With Their Freedoms

The Land of the Free Our tradition of Thanksgiving Day began with pilgrims who came to the “New World” for religious freedom from the Church of England We have freedom from sin in Christ (Jn. 8:32; Rom. 6:18; 8:2; Gal. 4:26; 5:1)

The Land of the Free Americans were given a “Bill of Rights” in 1791 affording them great freedoms and protections Amendment 1: Congress shall make no law respecting an establishment of religion, or prohibiting the free exercise thereof; or abridging the freedom of speech, or of the press; or the right of the people peaceably to assemble, and to petition the government for a redress of grievances.

Freedom of Religion What are Americans doing with the freedom of religion? More diverse and destructive religions are allowed into this country: Satanism, Islam, Buddhism, etc. What are NT Christians doing with their freedom of religion? Do we serve God to our fullest (Mt. 22:37; 24:12; Jn. 4:24; Jas. 1:26- 27; Heb. 6:4-6; Rev. 2:4)?

Freedom of Speech What are Americans doing with the freedom of speech? Many use this freedom to say foul things, lie, slander, take God’s name in vain, etc. What are NT Christians doing with their freedom of speech? Do we speak the truth to our fullest (Mk. 16:15; Eph. 4:15, 29; 6:19; Col. 4:3)?

Freedom of the Press What are Americans doing with the freedom of the press? Many use this freedom to promote and glorify immorality and evil like pornography, terrorism, racism, etc. What are NT Christians doing with their freedom of the press? Do we share the gospel truth in printed form to our fullest (Col. 4:16)?

Freedom of Assembly What are Americans doing with the freedom of assembly? Many use this freedom to riot, loot, and cause trouble. Others use this freedom to assemble for sporting events on Sundays in place of worshipping God. What are NT Christians doing with their freedom of assembly? Do we assemble for worship to our fullest (Jn. 20:19-24; Heb. 10:24-25)?

Freedom of Petition What are Americans doing with the freedom of petition? Many use this freedom to get the government on the side of immorality like divorce, abortion, or same-sex marriages. What are NT Christians doing with their freedom of petition? Do we petition our civil leaders to the fullest for our right to live a Christian life (Acts 25:11-12; 28:19)?

The Land of the Free We have to be careful not to: use our freedom in the wrong way (Gal. 5:13; 1 Pet. 2:16) fail to use our freedom to its fullest; becoming apathetic, indifferent, taking it for granted, etc.
