1. Graph 1 – Percent of Patient Visits Due to Influenza-like Illness This graph displays the number of people with flu-like symptoms (a fever and a cough and/or sore throat) who visited hospital emergency rooms and designated outpatient clinics in Santa Barbara County each week during the past year. The numbers at the bottom of the chart indicate the weeks of the year. The percentage of visits for flu-like symptoms at clinics during the last week in September was higher than any time in the previous 12 months. The percentage of emergency room visits for flu-like symptoms was at its highest during the first week in October. Graph 1

2. Graph 2 - H1N1 Hospitalizations by Age Group This graph depicts the number of people in Santa Barbara County hospitalized for H1N1 flu by age group. The total number hospitalized between June 23, 2009 and October 21, 2009 was 31. Of this total, slightly less than half were between the ages of 5 and 24 years, and more than 60% of those hospitalized were under the age of 24 years. Graph 2

3. Graph 3 – Hospitalized and Deceased Cases of Confirmed H1N1 This graph reflects the number of people who have been hospitalized or died in Santa Barbara County due to H1N1 flu during each week of the past year. The numbers at the bottom of the chart indicate the weeks of the year. The first hospitalization occurred in June, and the last week in September saw six new hospitalizations. There have been a total of 31 hospitalizations and three deaths in Santa Barbara County through the second week in October, 2009. Graph 3
