Welcome to Kindergarten

Special Notes on Kindergarten School begins at 7:30. (After 7:50 is considered tardy.) School is dismissed at 2:45. If your child is riding the bus please make sure that we have the correct bus number. (Please return bus/car tags daily for the first 3 weeks.) Thanks Send your child to school in “clothes for learning.” ( comfortable, washable clothing and shoes) No flip-flops Please write your child’s name on his/her mat, crayon box, and later on, the tag of your child’s jackets. Many jackets get left and lost during P.E. time. Please keep your child at home if he/she is sick/running fever. You will need to send a note to the school within 3 days for your child to be excused. See Handbook about excuses.

Special Notes on Kindergarten Cont… In order to accompany the class on a field trip, we must have a signed permission slip form turned into the office two days before the field trip or on the due date written on the form. In order for any parents to go, you must fill out and return to school the back-ground check. Your child will be able to celebrate birthdays during snack time. Feel free to send or bring cupcakes during this time. Please send an extra set of clothes to school in a Ziploc bag with your child’s name on the front.

Snack and Juice Snack and Juice can be purchased through the school per day: - 50¢ for juice - 50¢ for snack. Feel free to send your child a snack if you do not prefer to buy from the school. Snack money needs to be cash only.

Lunch Our scheduled lunch time is 10:50-11:20. Lunch is $2.50-daily, $12.50-weekly I would like to encourage everyone to fill out a free lunch form who is interested. We also have a breakfast program. (7:15-7:40) Students have to arrive early to eat breakfast at school. Breakfast-$1.50 daily Please make sure you write your child’s name on his/her lunch box.

*Please send all money in an envelope or Ziploc bag with your child’s name on it and what the money is for. Then place this in your child’s folder each day.

Behavior Issues I believe in using as much of a positive approach as I can. Each child will have a clothespin with his/her name on it and clipped on “Ready to Learn” at the beginning of each day. Getting work completed on time, following directions, and being kind to others will be reasons your child gets his her clothespin moved up. Consequences-Gets clothespin moved down for the following reasons: Messing around and not finishing his/her work, talking when he/she is suppose to be listening, being noisy when he/she should be using a quiet voice, or being unkind to others. A child whose clothespin ends up above the “Ready to Learn” receives a happy face for that day. A clothespin that ends up below this receives a note/sad face for that day. Children receive extra chances as they are getting use to the school rules. We will be practicing the rules the first few weeks of school. You can check your child’s folder each day and put your initials when you see the chart has been placed in the folder. I really appreciate your support!! It helps your child to be more focused and grasp all the skills.

Rewards for Good Behavior Your child will also have a ticket. When your child get’s his/her clothespin moved up to the top/or next to top and stays there, he/she will get a hole punch on the ticket. Other ways your child can get his/her ticket punched, bringing back things that are supposed to be signed the next day, bringing back his/her library book on time, being kind to others, listening when others around are not. Card with all holes punched= award coupon to be used in my class or trip to goody box.

Volunteers Parents (with back-ground check approval) are always welcome at the school as long as you sign in at the office. If you would be interested in volunteering to be a room mother, help with parties, field trips, art projects, copying or cutting please let me know. All help is wanted and needed.

Very Important Checklist Bus Number or Transportation arrangements (I will need to know this by the first day of school.) Please return your child’s bus tag/car tag each day for the first three weeks. Please read the student handbook. Please sign all the handbook pages and return them to school. Thanks! Student Folder returned on the first day of school. Be sure that lunch money, snack/juice money, and transportation information is included (i.e. bus number) Also write your child’s name on anything that has money in it.

I would like to encourage you to feel welcome in our class room at any time. Please stop by the office to sign in and pick up a visitor's pass. A quality kindergarten program depends on your involvement.

Questions? Please feel free to contact me by sending me a note in your child’s folder, e-mail, or call me with any concern that you may have. I look forward to working with you and your child this year!! linda.mccollough@elmoreco.com 334-541-5179 Home
