HERE IS A GOOD POEM FOR ANZAC DAY HERE IS A GOOD POEM FOR ANZAC DAY

WAR AT GALIPOLI  The war at Gallipoli was on April 25 th 1914.  It all started when the war was on and the ANZACs wanted to ship supplies to Russia, who was running low on food, water and ammo.  To get there they had to get the supplies through the Gallipoli Peninsula where the Turks were defending the area.  The ANZACs arrived at the wrong beach. On the hills above were the Turks firing down at them.

The Trenches  At war the trenches were like:  Mucky and wet.  Smelly.  Full of rats, that were the size of cats.  To sleep soldiers had to cut out bunks in the walls of the trenches, to sleep in or they’d be all wet or shot.

Good Or Bad? Trenches  Good  The trenches helped keep the soldiers stay alive.  They had good places to hide and shoot.  They had good places to keep the injured safe.  Bad  The trenches could get full of water.  The trenches were smelly because the carcasses fell into them.  The trenches were a good aim for grenades.

Here are some photos of uniforms.

When the ANZACs landed at Gallipoli Simpson saw a stray donkey and then he realised that a donkey might become in handy.

Simpson and his donkey worked day and night, hard and well. The donkey appeared to be quite brave not to shy at the constant gun fire.

On 19 th May 1915, Simpson was struck by a machine gun fire and died.

Allies In War

Problem In War  In war there where problems with bombs. Bombs where falling short and back into the trenches in which they where fired from. The New Zealand commander, Lieutenant-Colonel Malone was killed by one these errors.

The red poppy has become a symbol of war remembering the people who died in war, and for those who got injured in it. For the families who lost some of their members.

In France, there is a field called Flanders Field. In Flanders Field, after the war poppies started to grow. Since then the poppies where special flowers to remember those who died in war.

In Flanders fields the poppies blow Between the crosses row on row, That mark our place; and in the sky The larks, still bravely singing, fly Scarce heard amid the guns below. We are the Dead. Short days ago We lived, felt dawn, saw sunset glow, Loved and were loved, and now we lie In Flanders fields. Take up our quarrel with the foe: To you from failing hands we throw The torch; be yours to hold it high. If ye break faith with us who die We shall not sleep, though poppies grow In Flanders fields
