1 DSS SIG Area of Interest –the definition, movement, and storage of E&P data, information, and knowledge. –This group is essentially a cross-vendor, cross-product line user community for data store products and services. Players –operators, service and software providers, government agencies, consultancies, and POSC.

6 DSS SIG History –Global Unique Well Identifier Initiative Started in May ’03 Discussion paper published in early ’04 Steering Team of about 15 organizations –Members and non-members of POSC Key issue is global and free access by industry Status –Detailed reviews with data vendors: IHSE, Deloitte, Fugro-Robertson, Wood Mackenzie –Letter of Intent pending for Oil Companies –Request for Proposals being drafted to be sent to Service Providers »global clearing house service »customer-facing services for registration, query, etc. –Progressive coverage starting from the most active exploration and development regions.

7 DSS SIG History –Fluid Property Data Transfer ExxonMobil contribution in ’04 To be promoted for development in ’05 –Lithology Reference Standards Requested by WITSML SIG Mud Log Data Sub-team in late ’03 Request supported by SIG feedback during ’04 POSC has received a number of reference sources Specification included in WITSML Version 1.3 Work continues on a more complete technical specification –Well Symbol Reference Standards Suggested by a number of members Request not supported by SIG feedback No action planned beyond publishing reference sources
