1 LMR F C Lower MississippiRiver Forecast Center January 6, 2016 Talking Points- Mississippi River Forecasts (Page 1 of 3) The Mississippi River crest is between Caruthersville, MO and Osceola, AR. www.srh.noaa.gov/lmrfc

2 The USACE Lakes and Rivers Division (LRD) continues to regulate flows for minimum releases from Barkley and Kentucky Dams. As the river level at Cairo falls, discharges will start to increase to recover storage in each of the reservoirs. At the confluence of the Mississippi and the Ohio River, the Ohio River at Cairo, IL, is falling but remains above major flood stage at midday January 6, 2016 LMR F C January 6, 2016 Talking Points- Mississippi River Forecasts (Page 2 of 3) www.srh.noaa.gov/lmrfc

3 Crest heights on the Atchafalaya have been lowered based on early indications that diverted flows at Old River Structure are going into storage The crests for Reserve and New Orleans remain the same. Crest predictions for these locations are January 12. Predictions are still showing the timeframe of January 9 as the day the river will reach the 1.25 million cfs threshold at the New Orleans Carrollton gauge triggering the decision to open the Bonnet Carre spillway.
