Pre-Writing - RAFT Role – Who are you as the writer? – A reporter arguing that your side is valid Audience – To whom are you writing? – The public; specifically, those with an opposing view Format – What form will the writing take? – 1 paragraph Topic – What is the subject of the writing? – Genetically Modified Organisms

Drafting – Paragraph Structure Title Thesis Sentence – Using a hook is optional Startling fact, question, description, etc. – Introduce topic and position Topic is Position because one, two, three Body – Use transitions (p. 40) to introduce each new idea that supports your overall topic – S-C-C-C (p. 39) at least one time Conclusion Sentence – Re-state your thesis using different words
