This theory of motivation was put forward by Victor Vroom. It examines motivation from the perspective of why people choose to follow a particular course of action.
3
Vroom’s theory states that an individual tends to act in a certain way in the expectation that the act will be followed by a given outcome and according to the attractiveness of that outcome.
4
A person performs better and makes more effort if they believe that they will be able to finish a task successfully. Example: “ I can’t do this” really means “I don’t think I can do this successfully.”
5
Performing at a certain level leads to a desired outcome. Example: Copying and studying my notes will help me to pass the test. (Successful outcome is passing the test.)
6
This describes what goals are attained to meet an individual’s needs. Example: Passing the test will result in high marks which leads to scholarship entrance money to attend university
