1 John 1:9, “If we confess our sins, He is faithful and righteous to forgive us our sins and to cleanse us from all unrighteousness.”

Doxology Praise God, from whom all blessings flow; Praise Him, all creatures here below; Praise Him above, ye heavenly host; Praise Father, Son, and Holy Ghost.— Amen.

The Book of Proverbs Chapter 4 IV. Section 3, Vs. 20-27. Three Categories of Sin.

This Proverb urges us to examine our lives, to determine where we are headed. Are we headed in the right direction or the wrong one?

To ensure we are headed in the right direction we must be watchmen over the Right Lobe (Heart) of our soul, because it is the “Master-Control” of our life.

A wrong heart always produces a wrong life. But a righteous heart produces a right life.

To allow sin into the heart is to pollute your entire life. We must do a right thing in a right way in order to be righteous before God, experientially!

When we watch-over what we see, say and do, our heart is protected, and a protected heart strengthens us to walk on the right path in the form of what we see, say and do.

Socrates, “The unexamined life is not worth living.” Cf. 1 Cor 11:28-32

That is why you must keep your heart with more care and diligence than you keep any thing else in life, including your cell phone!

If you live in God’s Word He will protect, direct and perfect your path, for the glory of Jesus Christ.

To do so we must: 1. Keep our tongues, vs. 24, cf. Psa 34:13. 2. Keep our eyes, vs. 25, cf. Job 31:1. 3. Keep our feet, vs. 26, cf. Eccl 5:1.

These three represent the three major categories of Personal Sin, “Mental” (eyes), “Verbal” (tongue), “Overt” (feet).

Sin is a transgression or violation of the law or standards of God. These Divine standards are revealed in His Word. E.g., Prov 6:12-19; Col 3:5-10, etc.

The sinfulness of sin lies in the fact that it is against God even when the wrong we do is to others or ourselves. Psa 41:4; 51:4

Psa 51:4, “Against You, You only, I have sinned: and done what is evil in Your sight, so that You are justified when You speak and blameless when You judge.”

All sin emanates from the heart of your soul. Mat 15:18-19

Mat 15:18-19, “But the things that proceed out of the mouth come from the heart, and those defile the man. 19 For out of the heart come evil thoughts, murders, adulteries, fornications, thefts, false witness, slanders.”

Prov 6:17 lists all three categories of sin. “Haughty eyes (mental), a lying tongue (verbal), and hands that shed innocent blood (overt).”

Definition of the Three Categories of Sin.
